This new timber frame year-round home was designed, fabricated, and built by the owners from trees on their property, with the goal of ultimate energy efficiency, and using ‘ green’ certified materials and systems from basement to roof. He the designer/draftsman and timber-frame craftsman and she as a talented interior designer in a past life – together partnered in all architectural and design details from the bottom up. The home had to be spacious for informal gatherings of friends and kids come home, but also to be comfortable for the two of them, with dogs and cats. The result is open concept living which includes the kitchen as its center surrounded by formal dining, office for both, center entry hall and Living space for lounging, TV, reading, and music by the fire… All oriented to views of woods, lawns, mountains, and organic gardens.

The project features a casual eat-in kitchen, major prep and cooking are to serve 2, or many; abundant pantry, kitchen and dining ware, and display storage; 2 separate sinks – both needing to serve clean up, garden produce, and food preparation; composting and recycling; multiple cooking, baking, steaming, and refrigeration appliances – all energy efficient. The space is filled with color and whimsy, but offers clean lines and straightforward design with interesting materials. An eclectic mix of texture and style, Wendy worked with her clients to create an open living space that is inspiring and exciting but also comfortable and calm. Bathroom designs continue the fun and eco-friendly theme; a mixture of whimsy and elegance with an emphasis on efficiency and function. Have a look!
